In January 2001, my wife Debbie and I took a vacation to Antarctica. After flying to Ushuaia Argentina via Miami and Buenos Aires, we boarded the Mariya Yermolova (a 300 foot ice-strengthened vessel) with ~80 other passengers, 16 expedition staff/leaders, 120 rolls of film, and 6 blank video tapes for a 28 day trip to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island, South Orkney Islands and finally the Antarctic Peninsula. We traveled with a Super Fantastic group, Cheesemans Ecology Safaris. We have been on several trips with them - Russian Arctic, Tanzania, Galapagos, and now Antarctica. They are so fun that we don't plan a vacation without them. Click on the link to their web site to see a list of all their trips.

We created this website to share with our family and friends as well as to archive all the sights and sounds of our Antarctic Adventure. On the navigation bar above, you will find links to:

Expedition Log - Ted Cheeseman and another staff member, Janice Edgerly Rooks, did a great job compiling tons of information about our trip. Included in this document is species lists, maps and wonderful illustrations created by several of the trip participants. Kudos to all who contributed! Note: The log is 13mb, so should be downloaded to disk before viewing. It is in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it. If you do not have Acrobat Reader, you can get it for free from Adobe.
Equipment - If you are interested in the photographic, video or computer equipment we used, check out this page.
Frequently Asked Questions - If you have any questions about these web pages, you may find answers on this page. If you have questions about the trip itself, check out the Journal and the Expedition Log. They are both packed with good stuff!
